About Us: Mission, Vision, Community values

Our Purpose

We build supportive spaces where Black Muslim families can grow together in faith, joy, and community. At the Black Muslim Family Retreat, we recognize the powerful blend of cultural heritage and spiritual identity that shapes our community. Every year, we create a retreat experience that celebrates that identity and honors what makes us unique.

We focus on strengthening family bonds, deepening spiritual understanding, and fostering meaningful connections that continue long after the retreat ends.

Our Story

This retreat was born from a simple but powerful need: Black Muslim families deserve spaces where they feel seen, supported, and spiritually grounded. Too often, families navigate faith, parenting, and community in isolation or in spaces where their experiences are marginalized.

Because of this, we intentionally designed a retreat that centers Black Muslim voices while welcoming families at every stage of life. Through shared learning, reflection, and joy, we create an atmosphere where families can show up fully and authentically.

What We Believe

At the core of our work are a few guiding principles:

  • Faith is lived, not rushed. Spiritual growth happens best when families have time, space, and support.
  • Community is essential. Strong families thrive in connection with others who understand their experiences.
  • Children belong in sacred spaces. Our programming honors both adult learning and child development.
  • Rest is not a luxury. Rest is a necessary part of spiritual and emotional well-being.

Together, these values shape every aspect of the retreat experience.

Spiritual Sessions

We lead communal prayers and insightful lectures that strengthen spiritual practice and encourage reflection.

Workshops and Seminars

We offer workshops that engage, educate, and challenge participants, covering topics from Islamic history to contemporary family life.

Family Activities

We organize activities that spark joy, laughter, and connection as families play, learn, and grow together.

Youth Programs

Our youth sessions empower younger attendees through activities built to nurture identity, creativity, and belonging.

Our Vision Moving Forward

We envision a world where Black Muslim families thrive confidently in their faith, cultural identity, and relationships. We seek to model an environment where families feel safe, encouraged, and inspired to grow spiritually and socially together.

Rather than simply hosting an event, we work to nurture ongoing community, joy, and collective growth across every season of life.

Who This Retreat is For

This retreat is for Black Muslim families who are seeking:

  • A spiritually grounded environment
  • A welcoming and culturally affirming community
  • Time to reconnect as a family
  • Balance between learning, rest, and joy

Whether you are new to retreats or returning for deeper connection, you belong here.
